Storage Lewisham Modern Slavery Statement
Storage Lewisham is committed to conducting its business with integrity and respect for human rights. This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and in our supply chains. It applies to all employees, contractors, agency workers, and suppliers engaged by Storage Lewisham.
Modern slavery is a severe violation of fundamental human rights and includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, bonded labour, and human trafficking. We recognise that all businesses have a responsibility to be vigilant and to act decisively to identify and address any risks in their operations.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Lewisham has a zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly conduct business with any organisation that is involved in, or complicit with, modern slavery practices. All individuals working with or for Storage Lewisham are expected to uphold this commitment and to act ethically and lawfully at all times.
This zero-tolerance stance is reflected in our internal policies, supplier standards, and day-to-day decision making. Any breach or suspected breach of this policy is treated as a serious matter and may result in termination of employment or business relationships, as well as reporting to appropriate authorities where required.
Supply Chain Standards and Supplier Audits
We recognise that the greatest risk of modern slavery often lies within complex supply chains. Storage Lewisham seeks to work only with suppliers and service providers who share our values and demonstrate robust labour and human rights practices.
We communicate our expectations to suppliers through contract terms and supplier standards. These include requirements relating to freely chosen employment, fair wages, working hours, health and safety, and the prohibition of child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking.
To support compliance, we undertake proportionate supplier audits and assessments. These may include requesting documentation, conducting site visits where appropriate, and reviewing supplier policies, training, and recruitment methods. Where concerns are identified, we expect suppliers to implement corrective action plans within an agreed timeframe. If improvement is not demonstrated, we reserve the right to review, suspend, or terminate the relationship.
Employee Awareness and Responsibility
All employees are made aware of Storage Lewisham’s zero-tolerance position and their responsibility to help identify and report potential risks. Managers are responsible for ensuring that the teams they lead understand this statement and the standards expected of them and our suppliers.
We encourage a culture where raising concerns is supported and not discouraged. Any individual raising a concern in good faith will be protected from detrimental treatment as a result of their disclosure.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Storage Lewisham provides clear and accessible channels for reporting concerns about modern slavery, whether within our own operations or in our supply chain. Employees and contractors can report issues to their line manager, a senior manager, or through established internal reporting routes.
Concerns can be raised confidentially, and where legally possible, anonymously. Reports will be investigated promptly and impartially. Where appropriate, Storage Lewisham will cooperate fully with law enforcement and regulatory bodies. We are committed to taking remedial action where wrongdoing is identified, including support for affected individuals where we are able to provide it.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Storage Lewisham acknowledges that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing process that requires continuous vigilance and improvement. We regularly review our policies, risk assessments, and supplier monitoring practices to strengthen our controls and respond to emerging risks.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed on an annual basis by the Storage Lewisham leadership team to ensure it remains effective, relevant, and aligned with applicable legislation and best practice. Any significant changes to our approach will be reflected in an updated statement, which will be communicated internally and made available to stakeholders.
By setting clear expectations, maintaining robust oversight of our supply chain, and providing accessible reporting channels, Storage Lewisham seeks to play its part in the global effort to eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking.
